Message for dear Students

Dear Students,
March is almost here. And so is the dreaded exam season. While the levels of tension, stress and frustration are on an all time high, no one can deny the immense power of a simple smile and a simple 'Good luck. I know you'll do well" in curbing the exam stress! There isn't a way out of these desperate days. And there isn't really a short cut either.
Transient feeling of anxiety and stress is a part of life for every individual. A mild degree of anxiety and stress may be stimulating and motivating, and may actually help to improve the performance; but high degree of stress may be disrupting. Examinations and interviews are undoubtedly stressful situations. Every child goes through such situation and learns to cope up with stress arising out of them, with experience and advancing age.
Appearing for examinations is one of the very common situations, which an adolescent finds difficult to cope up with. A hard working adolescent with good intelligence may not be able to give his full performance in an examination. An adolescent may avoid an examination or may not be able to write the answers, though he/she knows them. An anxiety may disable and affect performance of an adolescent in an examination.
Right approach and right coping strategies may stimulate a child to overcome anxiety and maximize own performance in the examination. Minimal anxiety enables an individual adolescent to be more alert, attentive and concentrate fully in an examination. High degree of anxiety interferes with performance not only in the examination room but perhaps even more in the preparation of examination.
There is no remedy if the student has not put up organized, and/or sufficient efforts and not prepared systematically for the examination. Systematic, persistent, organized efforts from the beginning of the session are the best strategies for any individual to prevent anxiety related to examination.
A warm relationship and feeling of security in the home environment promotes congenial atmosphere for an adolescent and minimizes the stress and anxiety before, during and after examinations.
Suggestions for students:-
Before going to the Examination Hall
1. Avoid indigestible food, excessive liquids and stimulants like cola, coffee or tea in the previous night.
2. Avoid late night reading.
3. Sleep for six hours at least, to get enough rest.
4. Avoid discussion about previous papers.
5. Plan some relaxation in the morning like listening to light music or going for a short walk or a jog for 15 to 20 minutes.
6. Do not attempt any new revision topics on the day of examination.
7. Eat light food with good nutritive value well before you start from home on the way to examination hall. Keep a small water bottle along with to keep you well hydrated.
In the Examination Hall
1. Minimize waiting time outside the examination hall. It is always good to have known the exact examination hall and seat on the previous day.
2. Walk straight into examination hall on the day of examination.
3. Avoid anxiety provoking discussions with friends e.g. discussion on topics or questions or nervous feelings you have, etc.
4. Practice positive self-statements like "I am going to do well", "I am well prepared for this examination', ‘I have come here to pass the examination with good grades’.
In the Examination Seat
1. Settle and compose yourself.
2. Layout your equipment. e.g. pen, pencil, compass etc at leisure with cool mind.
3. Take fifteen minutes to read the paper and check instructions carefully and then underline key words in questions in your mind and plan.
4. Try to write legibly.
5. Leave space after each answer.
6. Select the question you know the answer best.
7. Write simply in short sentences, with correct spellings.
8. Avoid long background introductions in your answers.
9. Do not worry about the number of supplementary sheets used by the other examinees. Just concentrate on your own job.
10. Plan your time - drive the time according to the marks allocated to each question.
11. Stick to your time budget - try to keep ten minutes time at the end so as to permit you to tie supplementary, check roll no. etc.
12. If you are running out of time - remember that two half answered questions fetch more marks than only one fully answered question. So never leave any question unattempted.
13. Always leave fifteen minutes in the end to check your answers. This strategy helps to make minor changes, recheck any inadvertent omissions and adds to the mental peace for further examination papers.
Wish you all the very best for the examinations. It's absolutely fine and normal to be nervous. But your nervousness must never hold you back from performing your part.
All is well! Learn to Smile through Stress. Stay calm, be cool, be healthy, eat healthy, prepare well, do well and then wait for the magic to unfold. The World's all yours ... Go, Win it !

Wishing you a successful life!

Our New Year Resolution

Dear All

The year 2012 has been very eventful from various perspectives. It gave us an opportunity to improve upon our weaknesses and strengthen our core competencies. William Shakespeare has truly said “ To err is human and to forgive is divine” which means committing a mistake is human nature but learning from our mistakes may elevate our status beyond human imagination. Similarly nurturing a grudge against somebody is like holding a rotten potato in our hand and being oblivious about its putrid or obnoxious smell is again an abnormal behaviour. So it is better to forgive someone who has been instrumental in hurting us emotionally or psychologically because that way only we’ll be able to cure him or her from the deep rooted ailment or else we will be responsible for refueling his/her energy for this kind of offence.
The true objective of education has always been to develop the inherent and innate capabilities of children to their optimum extent but ever since the dawn of human civilization the core competencies have always been put on backburner. In other words very few educational institutions are there which offer training which may help a child solve his/her future problems related to life and that is the reason why we have such a whopping number of unemployed people or people with no vision, mission or goal in  their life. If we want to change the society, we have to take every child very seriously right from the first day of his/her entry in the school. We have to keep in mind that even if a single weakness of a child goes unnoticed, it will assume an alarming proportion by the time it catches our attention.
“A child enters an institution as a little angel but by the time the same child leaves as an adult, he/ she turns out to be a big devil”. It should be a matter of great concern for the educators who are and who have to be responsible for this kind of disturbing phenomenon. Per se a child is not bad but it is the kind of ambience in which he/she is kept for most of his/her waking hours that leave such corrupting influences on his/her mind. We educators are capable of finding a lasting solution to this aberration in their behaviour provided we are genuinely awake to this reality and instead of all the time forcing the child to do what he/she doesn’t like, we may provide him/her a platform which may keep the child productively engaged by channelising the huge reservoir of creativity  in him or her.
Two things which are imperative for every individual in every institution are patience and gratitude. Most of the problems are faced by an individual because of being in haste whether at home or in office which causes such a serious situation that sometimes it makes an individual rue throughout his/her life. Lack of gratitude, similarly, makes an individual devoid of sensitivity grace or elegance of life which are the core virtues.
Let this new year of 2013, therefore, be a year with a difference. Let us resolve to have strong social, human and moral values and engage our mind not in trivial matters but something that helps us become the agents of social change and a great driving force for larger human welfare. Let every act of ours be an act of great national pride. With such an unwavering and unflinching resolution, we shall certainly be able to pay the real tribute to our nation and then only we will deserve to call ourselves true Indians.

Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!

SUMMER VACATION

Dear Children,

I know how eagerly each one of you is waiting for the first day of the summer vacation to dawn so that you may be able to get over the monotony that has probably set in your life owing to uninterrupted hours of slogging for academic enhancement.

There is no doubt that this summer vacation is like an elixir for a student who keeps waiting for the commencement of summer vacation during which he/she can chill himself or herself to the utmost extent of satiation. One thing which however has not to be side tracked is the focus on your goal i.e. to listen to the most thrilling rhythm of your heart which wants you to do something which is your forte or USP (Unique Selling Point) and which if you can truly answer, the world is yours and you can be its de facto (actual) ruler.

We have quite often heard about brain-drain i.e. flow of talent from a developing country to a developed country but what we have not heard quite often is internal brain-drain which refers to flow of talent from an area of specialty to an area of mediocrity just because of peer pressure or parental force or sometimes even social pressures being exerted on you. Don’t forget one thing that in order to answer the call of internal rhythm you have to cross many hurdles and over come many barriers. There are umpteen number of examples which history is replete with where in order to reach their goal people have had to exhibit a great degree of grit and guts and a never say die spirit. To become 24 carrot gold, it has to pass through extreme heat but then it becomes so valuable that even if it is lying on a heap of garbage it has the same unfailing glint and unmistakable glow.

Education is not all about gorging facts and disgorging them on paper without even an iota of change in its presentation. It is formation not information which you need to emphasize on. Formation of mind i.e. cognitive ability not ability of retention of information that is an essential ingredient of success in the long run of life. It is not the marks which guarantee your success but your skill to handle a situation which calls for a great degree of common sense, alacrity of mind and clarity of vision. Enjoy every moment of your life and relish the delectable flavour of the journey and not its destination because success lies not in the end of the journey rather in the journey itself. Hope you will be back in school in the first week of July as rejuvenated and recharged human beings.

Happy Vacation…

Resolution for the Session 2012-13

The session 2011-12 came to a successful end with a lot of achievements, accolades and great opportunities for learning and reforming and transforming ourselves. Over and above it was an academic session of great transformation in many domains particularly in our attitude which always acts as trigger for any change.
The academic session 2012-13 has many good things in store for us. We are going to work with more dedication, commitment, zeal and enthusiasm. We are going to be more focused on our goal and resolve unflinchingly and unwaveringly to translate our dreams into reality. It will be possible only when we make a proper schedule and utilize every second at our disposal. We have to make sure that we are in proper uniform, with well polished shoes, handkerchief in pocket and have in our possession our lunch box, water bottle and the school diary unfailingly.
As we have quite often discussed that education is not training for livelihood or even for life, it’s rather life itself. So let us learn to live every moment of our student life with passion. If we keep the fire element always ablaze in us, no opportunity may wriggle out of our hand.
Our school life is the most essential part of our childhood and if we truly understand the seriousness of these formative periods of our life, our entire persona may have a facelift. There is no denying the fact that the best opportunities for progress and flourishment knock our door during our school life. Many attend them and grab hold of the opportunity but some, out of sheer laziness, lethargy or lack of will power fail to let the auto ignition button, inbuilt in us, press itself as a result of which throughout our life we have to expiate and atone for.
It is not necessary for everyone to reach the pinnacle or zenith of academic brilliance but it is quite imperative for everyone to call his/her best shot. In other words there is no one on this earth who has not been endowed with one or the other specialty by God. What we have to do is just to detect that domain of specialty and polish the same to perfection. Once we have detected our special ability, we have not to stop or rest on our laurels. We have to go on and on in life till God’s intervention and closure of the final chapter of our life.

The essential role of education in the development of a child

Dear All

As it is said, “Learning is finding out what we already know. Doing is demonstrating that you know it. Teaching is reminding others that they know just as well as you. We are all learners, doers, and teachers.” It brings me immense satisfaction and pleasure to see children dwell under my guidance. For not only I teach them, but I learn the most from them. I believe that well begun is half done, my students have always inspired me every day to start with a new beginning. With all these experiences in my hand the best subject I like to deal with is the, child’s psychology and we as teachers know the best how to tackle and mould the growing years of a student’s life. Teacher’s talent of understanding the child’s mind and ideology is hardly ever given any importance. But recently I was fortunate enough to get a golden opportunity of delivering a series of lectures which were telecast on the education channel Vyas of Doordarshan (managed by UGC). It was about “The essential role of education in the development of a child”. When we talk about development of child, I guess marks, academics percentage are not the primary criteria to judge a child. For me aptitude consists of only about 20% of our personality whereas our attitude that includes holistic approach, our etiquettes, our smartness and our behavior consists of 80% of our personality. Also every student persists a unique talent, and it is the duty of a teacher to polish and recognize the talent.

In the lecture I basically briefed, what is education, how it helps a man to alter his mistakes. How a man can capture his or her passion and recognize his shortcomings and how education helps a man to overcome them. There were also discussions about what is the significance of education. What is modern education? I hope through my every word I was able to inspire students. And yet again on 13 December 2011, I had to deliver a speech on “Effective schooling and effective school”. In this lecture my basic focus was on the modern day schooling, and what it takes to make and alter the attitude of students for these are the only years which make or break a child’s career. I feel so delighted to have such students with me in my school who always aspire me to get the best out of me.

Thank you dear students.

My Message on the occasion of Deewali

Dear all

Deewali is a festival of light.  The light that symbolizes knowledge, understanding and wisdom.  The light of wisdom is so powerfully penetrating that it is capable of dispelling the darkness of ignorance, depression and dejection and replacing the same with the brilliance of understanding, fellow-feeling, joviality and mutual caring and sharing.  I have never been supportive of mindless bursting of crackers without thinking least about others’ peace of mind or sometimes even ignoring the very existence of other people in our vicinity and causing a serious loss of hearing or aural impairment.   Somewhere along the line we have forgotten that true celebration of Deewali will be by bringing happiness in the life of our neighbours, friends, colleagues or fellow human beings. A simple wishing with smile on your lips and twinkle in your eyes may be more rewarding and fulfilling an experience for any one whom you offer the same.

I wish to celebrate Deewali by being with my family and spending with them some uninterrupted moments which today’s highly preoccupying life style has made a rarity.  At times, it appears that we are like a straw which is being swept away by an invisible tide of time into the ocean of bottomless depth.  Despite all these handicaps we have to prove that we have the determination and the grit to face any challenge that we come across.

HAPPY DEEWALI!

My Message on the occasion of Dussehra

Dear Students,

Wish you all very happy Dussehra holidays.  These holidays are there to give you a break after a long spell of arduous efforts, monotony of class- room learning with full engagement and complete absorption in your meticulous preparation for tests and exams.

One thing which, however, has not to be allowed to sink into oblivion is your focus on your goal i.e., to make yourself a wonderful human being imbued with all social, moral, ethical and spiritual values which are going to be the core of your entire personality and which will determine how smartly you are going to fare in life.

One of the core values which is given special consideration by all and sundry is respect for elders irrespective of their social status or kind of contribution they make in our life.  In this regard, I would like to urge you on to extend respect and regards not only to the teachers but also to all the members associated with the school viz., office staff,  peons, attendants and cleanliness staff, because they all contribute in their own way to the progress of the school. This way only you can honour the dignity of labour.

Furthermore, you should also take care of the words that you speak.  Make sure that no word uttered by you hurts the feeling of someone or becomes the cause of somebody’s sorrow.  The actual happiness that we experience is the one that comes by bringing a smile on the parched and dry lips of someone who has been hungry and thirsty for a kind word or a look filled with great love and affection.  You may not be able to measure the ecstasy that a person,  starved of love and kindness, may feel but it will be a real reward for you.

With love and affection,
